Poser

fetch to the sea for a sole
what, do you think, you are like to find in its mouth?
drachmae for the temple tax?

more like to find baited hooks
the Pharisees’ tongue-traps for the fisher of souls
gill-nets for the gullible

but make no mistake about this
we shall give no offense and we shall pay the tax
and they shall pay too… oh yes

  1. Greg Wright says:

The reference here is obvious. Peter reflects using an ancient Hebrew poetic form, the “Hebeku.”
