Email Exchange Upon a
Rescheduling of Rooms

after William Carlos Williams

i.

This is just to say
there will be no
plums in the kitchen

As it is still winter and
winter plums
are so cold

And imported
and not so sweet.

ii.

How now, with no plums?
Do we opt for other fruit,
another kitchen,
or a different room
altogether?

Do we retreat into memory,
into pies long past?
Do we Jack Horner
another corner?

Shortages are not
the only thing
to thwart us.
Longings may, too.
