Fenestration

In Architecture: The arrangement of windows and doors in a building.
In Medicine: A surgical procedure to correct certain causes of deafness.

May Day, 2020

A daily spray of misdirected sprinkler
water has caked my muntined window
with a thick scale of calcium opaque
as frosted bathroom privacy glass.

How long has the damn thing been broken?

A trusty YouTube video informs me
the solution for my blighted port of view
is the tried and true—spit and vinegar:
elbow grease with a side of moxie.

This is not at all what I want to hear.

But current circumstances dictate
that I have all the time in the world
to scrutinize these befouled panes
and contemplate the implications.

Do I really want to see what’s inside?
