And Then I Had a Stranger Dream

(With No Apologies to Ed McCurdy,
nor to Pete Seeger, nor Simon and Garfunkle, &c.)

Last night I had the strangest dream
     I ever dreamed before
I dreamed the world had all agreed
to put an end to war

I dreamed I saw a mighty room
     with women everywhere
And the paper they were signing swore
     that fighting we’d forbear

Yet ere the paper’s ink could dry
     a resistance male and red
Arose and swore ’twould fain expire
than by such trash be led

They wrote state laws to squelch the vote
and pushed “the right to life”
While ammo, guns, and camouflage
sold well and soon grew rife

And then I had a stranger dream
     I’ll never dream again
I dreamed the world had next agreed
to put an end to men
